Bagamoyo Historical Site City

Description: Bagamoyo is gaining ground as a popular alternate to Zanzibar. It is here that you will find similarities to Zanzibar (beautiful beaches and historic sites) without the large numbers of tourists.

Bagamoyo is now little more than a small town. The town’s name was derived from the word Bwagamoyo meaning “take the load off and rest”. It is the place where the slaves could rest before being trade off.

Despite being a small town, it used to be one of the most important ports in East Africa. It was a leading port for the ivory and slave trade. This area will give you the historic ancient vibe as it has ruins and culture that run more than 800 years.

These days, Bagamoyo is known as the ‘arts capital’ of Tanzania. It boasts an annual arts festival from the end of September into early October. It is a good getaway for honeymoon, vacations, weekends as it has plenty activities to offer from historic tours to the immaculate beaches. There is enough accommodation that will give you the spectacular sky blue oceanic view, beautiful morning chills from the sunrise view and plenty of local food.
